When I was about 6 years old, I received my first MONOPOLY board game. I was so excited, but had nobody to play with, and neither me nor my parents really understood how to play the game, as I was a bit young, and they had not grown up in a household that played games.

Anyway, my three year old sister was left alone in the family room with my MONOPOLY set, and had proceeded to put several of the pieces up her nose before my mother found her. Mom was able to remove all but one piece that was stuck too far up, so we ended up having to go to the emergency ward to have it removed.

The doctor was very nice, and the procedure very successful. And he told my mom how much he, himself, loved MONOPOLY. So, when my mom got home, she read the rules, then sat down with my father and me and taught us how to play. From then on, every Friday night we would play a game, and often times that game would be MONOPOLY. When my sister was old enough to play, she would ALWAYS choose the little dog, as that was the piece that she'd had to have removed.

When my son was a teenager, he tried for a long time to beat me at Scrabble. I'm not the kind of person to play for anything but a win. One night the game was almost at the end and I was beating him by a just a little on my last turn. He grew tired but said to leave the game up and he would revisit it in the AM. He was able to throw down his last word in the morning and beat my score. He was ecstatic!
